President - Tammy Conkle
Tammy Conkle is a certified wildlife biologist that is currently the Natural and
Cultural Resources Manager for the Commander Navy Installations Command in
Washington DC. Before that position at NAVFAC Tammy supported Naval Facilities
Engineering Command as the Natural Resources Business Line Team Leader in the
Southwest. Her installation management experience also comes from the Navy
Region Southwest footprint and where she was directly responsible for the
wildlife programs at Naval Base Coronado, Naval Base Point Loma and Naval Base
San Diego. Prior to that Tammy was the wildlife biologist at Naval Air
Station/Marine Corps Air Station Miramar where she started her career with the
federal government in 1994. Her primary interest any experience has been with
the management of endangered species, migratory birds, and invasive species on
Navy lands.
As your President Tammy is committed to an organizations that incorporates the
priorities of our members, gets folks involved, and that the importance and
mission of our organization becomes more common to the general public and our
peers.
Tammy is always interested in getting input from and involving others so please
let her know if you have any comments, questions, concerns, ideas or just how
you want to be involved.

President Elect - Rich Fischer
Rich is a Certified Wildlife Biologist, and Team Leader of the Wildlife Ecology Team in the Ecological Resources Branch, US Army Engineer Research & Development Center’s
Environmental Laboratory. He grew up in Atlanta, GA, where he earned a B.S. in Biology from Oglethorpe University. From there he went on to Auburn University (MS in Wildlife Science) and the University of Idaho (PhD in Wildlife Resources) where he studied the ecology of gray squirrels and sage grouse, respectively. His one and only real job has been as a Research Wildlife Biologist at ERDC. The majority of his work involves research and monitoring of bird communities on civil works and military lands; restoration
and management of riparian systems; and as lead instructor for several riparian ecology courses. He lives in Louisville, KY, and works out of the Army Corps’ Louisville District
office. Aside from travel, playing basketball, and birding, he enjoys spending time with his 4 school-aged children (Sarah, Robert, Anna, and Ella).
Immediate Past President - Chris Eberly
Received a B.S. in computer science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1981, where he also attained All-American status in the 10,000 meter run. Worked 11 years in computers (9 years for Hewlett-Packard), then quit and went to grad school at The University of Georgia for an M.S. in natural resources / ornithology (1996). During grad school he was active in the Georgia Breeding Bird Atlas, the Student chapter of The Wildlife Society, and served as president of the Oconee Audubon Society. He has been Program Manager of the Department of Defense Partners in Flight (PIF) program since 1997. He has chaired several Partners in Flight committee and received the national Partners in Flight Leadership Award in 2001. He consults with DoD natural resources professionals about bird conservation issues, and writes articles about DoD’s role in bird conservation in various bird and conservation magazines. Having seen more than 650 bird species in the US, he is trying to find anyone who has seen more “lifers” (42) on military lands than he has seen.

Vice President - Kirsten Christopherson
Kirsten has worked for the Air Force since 1996 and is currently the Senior
Biologist at Beale Air Force Base in California. She is a Certified Wildlife
Biologist and holds a B.S. in Zoology (University of California, Davis) and
an M.S. in Biological Conservation (California State University,
Sacramento). She has held multiple positions on the Board of The Wildlife
Society, Sacramento-Shasta Chapter for the last 7 years; during that time,
she implemented a student scholarship program and was the coordinator for an
annual training symposium. During her spare time, Kirsten enjoys spending
time outdoors with her husband and 1-year old daughter.
Secretary - Denise Lindsay
Denise Lindsay is a Research Biologist in the Environmental Laboratory of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She earned a BS in Biology from Southern Oregon University (2000) and an MS in Biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (2006). She previously worked a variety of seasonal positions with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service. Her current research activities
focus on the assessment of intercolony genetic structuring in the gray bat (Myotis grisescens), the investigation of fundamental network relationships that underlay the integrity of plant-pollinator communities, and the study of genomic responses and multiscale impacts of multigenerational RDX exposure in fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas).

Treasurer - Jacque Rice
At-Large Director - Aaron Alvidrez
Aaron Alvidrez is a wildlife biologist at Luke AFB in Phoenix, where he manages natural resources on the Barry M. Goldwater Range in Southwest Arizona. After receiving a B.S. in Biology at Northern Arizona University in 2000, he began his federal career with the United
States Forest Service where he worked as a biologist on the Ogden Ranger District in northern Utah. Aaron worked with a variety of ‘Management Indicator Species’ and received fulfillment from the projects he was a part of, including the Northern Goshawk Program. As a native of Phoenix, Aaron enthusiastically accepted his position at Luke AFB in 2005 and was thankful for the opportunity to return to the Sonoran Desert. He takes much pride in managing the Sonoran Pronghorn Antelope Recovery Project, and enjoys working on collaborative partnerships with neighboring agencies. Aaron is happily married and takes advantage of any opportunity to share his love for wildlife and the land with his 9 year old son. He also enjoys golfing, fishing, and volunteering with the American Cancer Society.
At-Large Director - David McNaughton
Dave received a B.S. in Environmental Studies from George Washington University in 2000. He worked with butterflies at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center in 2000 before going into wetlands consulting for three years to see the real world. He returned to the Gap in 2004 and is still there as the Assistant Wildlife Program Manager. Primary research interests include general botany, ecology, woodrats, and regal fritillaries. Dave has been a member since 2004 and has served as the NMFWA Herp WG Secretary (2006-2007) and is the current Outdoor Recreation WG Secretary. He loves his two dogs, exploring and travel, and discussions over free beer. As a chair, he would like to better facilitate the during and after-conference dialogue between our members, press the dreams and schemes from the no-host social out to the installations, and assist the board to keep the great work the organization is known for going strong. He also wants to pull those newer DOD employees into the fold and keep the NMFWA age-pyramid firmly grounded with a wide base.
At-Large Director - Randy English
Randy English is the Sustainable Range Program Manager for U.S. Army Yuma proving Ground where he has been since 2002, first as the installation wildlife biologist and then as conservation manager. He has not always been a desert rat, having worked at the US Army Corps of Engineers New York District, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Penn State Cooperative Wetlands Center. In his efforts to help sustain the military testing and training mission while conserving natural resources, Randy maintains involvement in many groups including the Arizona Interagency Desert Tortoise Team, Arizona Bird Conservation Initiative Southwest Regional Workgroup, Sonoran Conservation Partnership Team, Barry M. Goldwater Executive Council, and Sonoran Pronghorn Interdisciplinary Team. Randy received his Honors Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from the Pennsylvania State University, completing both the Behrend Honors Program and the Schreyer Scholar Program. Randy is also a veteran of the United States Army.
Randy has been a member of the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association since 2002 and is currently serving his second term as At-large Director for the Association.
Randy enjoys everything outdoors. He has been married for 19 years and has a 7-year-old boy who likes to be in the desert as much as his old man.
Regional Director East - Joe Hovis
Joseph Hovis is the Wildlife Program Manager for the PA National Guard at Fort Indiantown
Gap. He has 2 decades of experience in conducting wildlife research and almost 10 years of
experience managing natural resources at Fort Indiantown Gap. He has been a NMFWA member since 2001 and has attended every annual meeting since. Joe (to his friends or those that know he is of German decent) was Eastern Regional Director 2003-2004 and Chair Herpetology Workgroup 2006-2008 and will present/talk about management of natural resources and the military mission to anywhere/anyone that is willing to accept an abstract or stand still for 2 minutes.

Regional Director Central - David Beckman
David is a Wildlife Biologist at Fort McCoy Wisconsin where he has worked since 1990. David’s current role includes the management of the hunting seasons, permit sales, invasive plant species control, wildlife populations and native habitats. He received his BS in Wildlife Management from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 1993. Starting as an
undergraduate, David has worked on a wide range of projects associated with black bear, urban deer, northern harriers, wild turkey, Copper’s hawk, grassland birds, prairie restoration, and wetland restoration. He is an active member of the Wisconsin TWS chapter where he served as editor of the chapter newsletter, developed the electronic newsletter, electronic election procedures, and initial chapter web page and spearheaded IT support for the Midwest Fish and Wildlife and National TWS conferences. He also provided support to the Invasive Plant Association of Wisconsin (IPAW) and Midwest Invasive Species Network (MIPN) in the development of their electronic newsletters, web pages and listservs.
Regional Director Central - Dick Gebhart
Dick is a Soil Scientist for the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Construction Engineering Research Laboratory in Champaign, IL. He currently serves as project manager for a variety of research programs including the mitigation of terrestrial invasive species impacts on military training. He received his Ph.D. in Rangeland Science from Utah State University and worked for the USDA, Agricultural Research Service and a not-for profit sustainable agricultural foundation prior to coming to work for ERDC. Dick is an active member of the American Society of Agronomy where he has served on the Board of Directors as well as many student related committees including the speech contest, agriculture/natural resources scholarships, and study abroad scholarships. He currently holds faculty appointments at the University of Illinois and Colorado State University where he provides guidance and service on graduate student committees. He has served NMFWA as doorprize and silent auction coordinator, Invasive Species Working Group Chair and Secretary, and as an At-Large-Director. In his spare time, Dick enjoys gardening, motorcycles, Mexico, and spending time with his wife and his cattle dog.
Regional Director West - Lisa Markovchick
Lisa is a Natural Resource Specialist with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command,
Southwest) in San Diego, CA, where she manages exotic vegetation removal, and fox and
sage sparrow conservation projects. Lisa has called the Navy home for three years,
working on rotations including the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Navy’s Bird/Animal
Aircraft Strike Hazard Program, and MCB Camp Pendleton’s Environmental Security
and Fire Department. Lisa earned a BA in Psychology and Education from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand (1998), where she conducted studies on the influence of expertise on memory function and decisions, and an MS in Biology from San Diego State University (2007).
Regional Director West - Gerald Johnson
Jerry is currently the Asset Management Flight Chief at Fairchild AFB, Washington. He oversees numerous Civil Engineering programs including Natural Resources. As the first Natural Resource Manager at Fairchild AFB his program was recognized twice as best in the Air Force by receiving two General Thomas D. White Natural Resource Management Awards for Excellence. Jerry also worked for a number of years for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in several states including South Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Washington. He holds a BS Degree in Agriculture Business from Montana State University. Born and raised in Montana and now a resident of North Idaho he spends a lot of time in the outdoors. His interests include hunting, fishing, camping and riding his Harley at every opportunity.
Newsletter Editor - Laura Busch
I am the Environmental Planner at Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina and work both natural and cultural resources issues for SJAFB and Dare County Bombing Range.
Previously I was a natural resources specialist at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms CA. I received a BS in Agriculture Economics from West Virginia University in 1990. I then served in Marine Corps in HMT-302, a CH-53 helicopter squadron. Having not
endured quite enough pain as a Marine, I decided to attend graduate school at Texas A&M University. I completed a MS in Beef Cattle Science and a MAg (Masters of Agriculture) in Rangeland Ecology and Management. I also interned as a wildlife/range biologist at the King Ranch in Kingsville TX as part of my graduate studies.
