Immediate Past President - Terry Bashore
Education: BA Psychology – Univ. of Miami, FL; MS Biology – Millersville State Univ., PA; and Ph.D Ecology – Penn State Univ., PA. Terry has served, since August 2000, as the Senior Ecologist/Research Scientist to the Director of Operations at Headquarters Air Combat Command. Terry is the science program manager and responsible for ensuring quality science for the Command’s ranges and airspace. He also is actively engaged in research and is currently working on a project to germinate and reestablish pigeon wing (Clitoria fragrans), an endangered plant species that occupies Air Force Bombing Range impact areas. Terry has no idea on how the plant got its scientific name, but suspects that there is an interesting story to be told. Terry has had a wide range of experiences: lifeguard and beach photographer in Ocean City MD, fraternity president (Pi Kappa Alpha), Air Commando Officer in Southeast Asia, college professor (Penn State, New England College, and the University of Maryland System), Private Consultant (wetlands), Chairman of the Worcester County MD Planning Commission, U.S. Army Installation Wildlife Ecologist, and at times just a trouble maker when things need correcting. Terry has worked with a variety of species: bottle-nosed dolphins, white-tailed deer, red fox, black snakes, rattlesnakes, wild horses, and antelope.

Treasurer - Jonathan Wald
At-Large Director - Coralie Cobb
Is a TWS Certified Wildlife Biologist (as of April 2006) and a General Biology graduate from the University of California (BA 1990) with an additional 30 graduate semester hours at San Diego State University. Coralie is Navy by birth (hospital at Port Hueneme, CA) and either held a DoD dependent identification card or a DoD employee identification card all her life. She started her federal career in 1989 in a part-time, temporary position and graduated from Biological Technician to Natural Resources Specialist to Botanist while working at Natural Resources office at Naval Air Station Miramar. She is currently employed as a Senior Natural Resources Specialist with Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest in San Diego, CA. With a recent promotion and new job responsibilities, the primary challenges include dealing with management of the natural resources community at Southwest, mentoring new employees (both full-time and interns) and continuing to work natural resources projects in new areas within the Southwest footprint. She is happily married to Jess Cobb (11+ years) and they have a three-year old son named Ethan. The whole family is excited about adding another member to the family in late October/early November of 2006 (baby Cobb).
At-Large Director - Randy English
Randy English is the Conservation Manager for U.S. Army Garrison Yuma where he has been since 2002. Before coming to Arizona, Randy worked as a biologist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New York District, as a fisheries biologist aide for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and as a researcher for the Penn State Cooperative Wetlands Center. He received his Honors Degree (BS) in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from the Pennsylvania State University, completing both the Behrend Honors Program and the Schreyer Scholar Program. Randy is also a veteran of the United States Army. He has been a member of the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association since 2002.
One of the biggest challenges Randy faces is one common to all military land managers; trying to shift the paradigm from one where military mission and resource conservation are perceived as being mutually exclusive activities to one where the success of each directly influences the success of the other. Anyone who has walked into a room full of people in BDUs and said “endangered species” or a room full of US Fish and Wildlife Service people and said “military training” can relate. One can’t change people, but one can work to change perceptions.
Randy enjoys everything outdoors (which is good thing since in Yuma there is little else). He has been married for 16 years (to the same wonderful woman) and it doesn’t seem like a day over 20! He has a 3-year-old boy who likes to be in the desert as much as his old man. Although he still calls the pipistrelles “rollerstrollers” and he finds amusement in daddy’s nearly stepping on rattlesnakes, the boy will make a fine NMFWA member someday!
Regional Director East - Laura Busch
I am the Environmental Planner at Seymour Johnson AFB in
North Carolina and work both natural and cultural resources
issues for SJAFB and Dare County Bombing Range.
Previously I was a natural resources specialist at Marine
Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms CA.
I received a BS in Agriculture Economics from West
Virginia University in 1990. I then served in Marine Corps
in HMT-302, a CH-53 helicopter squadron. Having not
endured quite enough pain as a Marine, I decided to attend
graduate school at Texas A&M University. I completed a
MS in Beef Cattle Science and a MAg (Masters of
Agriculture) in Rangeland Ecology and Management. I also interned as a wildlife/range
biologist at the King Ranch in Kingsville TX as part of my graduate studies.
Regional Director East - Tessa Martin-Bashore
Tessa Martin-Bashore serves as the Training Land Manager for Fort Eustis, VA where she acts as the primary assistant to the Chief, Training Division by participating in the management and operational functioning of the training lands. She is responsible for planning, conducting and monitoring land management programs which include the Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) Program and for advising all echelons of the installation staff on professional and technical matters pertaining to the conservation of natural resources, maintaining high quality training environments and environmental laws and regulations pertaining to range and training area management. Prior to becoming part of the civil service, Tessa worked as a DoD environmental contractor.
Regional Director Central - Rich Fischer
Rich is a Certified Wildlife Biologist, and Team Leader of the
Wildlife Ecology Team in the Ecological Resources Branch,
US Army Engineer Research & Development Center’s
Environmental Laboratory. He grew up in Atlanta, GA,
where he earned a B.S. in Biology from Oglethorpe

in Wildlife Science) and the University of Idaho (PhD in
Wildlife Resources) where he studied the ecology of gray
squirrels and sage grouse, respectively. His one and only real
job has been as a Research Wildlife Biologist at ERDC. The
majority of his work involves research and monitoring of bird
communities on civil works and military lands; restoration
and management of riparian systems; and as lead instructor
for several riparian ecology courses. He lives in Louisville,
KY, and works out of the Army Corps’ Louisville District
office. Aside from travel, playing basketball, and birding, he
enjoys spending time with his 4 school-aged children (Sarah, Robert, Anna, and Ella).
Regional Director West - Sandy Baldwin
Currently employed as a Natural Resources Specialist for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest in San Diego, California. She graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Zoology. For the Navy, she has done some fairy shrimp sampling, bird-banding, toad and bird surveys. But, that’s only part of the job as you all know. She also gets to hear the horn of the cruise ships as they leave for exotic ports of call from her opened window to the bay. In her spare time, she likes hiking, kayaking, and watching LOST. She lives with her husband and two wonderful teenage boys (one is going off to college!) and her German shepherd dog (who is the best behaved of the bunch).

Kirsten will be taking a month-long jaunt to Europe in June 07 to get hitched.
Newsletter Editor - Rick Lance
Is the Branch Chief of the Environmental Processes Branch of the US Army Engineer Research & Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory. He grew up in fabulous Las Vegas, NV, was an LDS missionary in Italy, went through at least 4 majors before earning a BS in Zoology from Brigham Young University (1994), moved on to a place where “things are green and water falls from the sky” for his PhD studies (Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, 1999), and spent a year in Memphis, TN, as a post-doc before finally settling down to work for the Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, MS. Along the way he picked up a good wife, 2 kids, a foster baby, and two nearly worthless domestic cats. He has been studying wildlife ecology and genetics for 12 years, including the last 6 years on various military installations. Having just entered the ranks of odious Management, he has already forgotten heat, humidity, mosquitoes, and unfortunate experiences with field vehicles, and is longing for the good ol’ days of field research.
