Bill Berry

West Regional Director 1

Bill is the Regional Conservation Program Manager for Marine Corps Installations West based at Camp Pendleton.  He supports and coordinates the Natural Resources staff and programs at 10 Marine Corps Installations and Ranges in California and Arizona, which just happen to support 29 federally listed species.

Bill began working on DoD installations in 1986 at Camp Roberts California Army National Guard Training Site managing their San Joaquin kit fox conservation program.  In 1996 he moved to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton where he served as staff biologist, Wildlife Management Section Head, and Resource Management Branch Head before transitioning to the regional position in 2013.

Bill grew up in San Diego, California where family camping vacations in western National Parks and Baja California instilled him with a passion for wildlife and natural resources.  Bill received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of California at Davis in 1982.  Prior to graduating he interned with the U.S. Forest Service working with Tule Elk and the BLM working with Red-tailed Hawks.

He considers himself a Jack-of-all-trades and appreciates the opportunity to continually gain new knowledge and learn new approaches to support both resource stewardship and the military mission.  Bill’s first NMFWA meeting was at Denver in 1990. When not working Bill likes to hike, bike, cook, bake and build databases.
